The sculptural and sound installatation „Home“ makes a symbol out of a bombed out housing
block. It becomes a place where destinies were destroyed and people killed, but where
nevertheless in the remaining part of the building, courageously, life goes on.
„For this installation I was inpired by a story tõld by a theatre colleague who managed to flee
Ukraine right after the full scale Russian invasion. He told us how he spent weeks in Mariupol
in a half bombed house, charged his phone from his electric scooter battery and created a tiny
„safe zone“ in the coridor of this flat. This personal story made me ponder the endurance of
the human spirit even in the face of intolerable losses,“ Zhedelyov says.
The installation was opened in Vabamu by the Russian Theatre of Estonia on February 24,
2025 – the National Independence day of Estonia and the 3rd anniversary of the full scale
invasioon of Ukraine by Russia.
